A Summary of the World’s 4 Most Popular Religions and Their Beliefs

Religion has been a core part of human history. Ever since the early years of humanity, the belief in a higher being who wields superior power to humans has been common in different communities and cultures. While there are more religions that have been widely accepted by a larger group of people, there are several other religions that have also developed among smaller communities as well.

While organized religion has always been a core aspect of the way humans live, the more famous ones have obviously lasted the test of time especially as their traditions have been passed down throughout the generations. Here are some of the world’s most popular religions and their beliefs.

4. Buddhism

Buddhism is a huge religion with over 500 million followers all over the world. Based on the teachings of the religious teacher Gautama Buddha, Buddhism began spreading from the nation of India almost 2,500 years ago. And that the way to achieve “nirvana” or enlightement is through constant meditation and practicing good morals.

The long history of the religion may have had a part to play in the sheer amount of devotees that contine to flock to Hinduism — but the core beliefs of the religion as well are deep enough to keep the faith of its advocates strong. Hinduists believe in “samsara” or the cycle of life, death, and reincarnation and “karma” or the law of cause and effect.

2. Islam
Islam is another religion which is considered to be among the most popular in the world. With over 1.8 billion followers, practitioners of Islam have spread all over almost every corner of the globe. Believed to be first preached by the Prophet Muhammad, “Muslims” or the followers of Islam generally believe that nothing in life can happen without the permission of God or “Allah”.
