Brandon Nicholson, Ph.D. Helps Black Youth Through The Hidden Genius Project
Brandon Nicholson, a Ph.D. degree holder who has made the rounds online for his work as the Founder and current Executive Director of The Hidden Genius Project, is a bright-minded individual who has touched many lives and changed many fates through his organization.
Aligning with his advocacy of supporting the Black male youth in both their professional and educational goals, the Hidden Genius Project is a non-profit organization that offers to train and mentor young Black men in several fields such as business and technology.
At just 39 years old, Brandon has already made a huge difference through the Hidden Genius Project. Explaining his reason for establishing the organization, he went on to recall that his calling to be an advocate for others started when he was young.
Citing his experience with his parents as a source of inspiration, Brandon said, “My parents were trained as lawyers and were very much involved in school policies, taking me to school board meetings and parent association meetings as they’re trying to advocate for more resources. So I got a lot of support.”

Another life-changing event for Brandon was when school officials reached out to him when he was a kid to offer him an opportunity to be included in the program called A Better Chance which was designed to support young people of color in their educational aspirations.
Remembering this event, he shared, “[I remember] in the middle of the day, the counselor and the assistant principal called me out of my homeroom class to go to the office. They slid an application across the desk for a program called A Better Chance that supports young people of color applying to prep schools around the country. All I could think about was how many people didn’t get called into the office that day … How many people wouldn’t get access to these resources?”.

Using his earlier experiences combined with the skills he gained as a student of both UC Berkeley and UCLA, Brandon connected with several other Black peers to create the Hidden Genius Project. Since its creation, the organization has helped more than 9,300 students in their professional journey. Brandon Nicholson truly is a beacon of hope for today’s generation of young Black men.
